» Technology Drivers and Trends Dr. S. Glober delivered keynote speech at SAE/ IMechE global VTMS conference Stefan Glober, Managing Director of Glober & Partners Consulting s.àr.l. and former Director of Engineering of Delphi-Thermal Europe and South-America was invited to deliver the keynote speech to the bi-annual, global Vehicle Thermal Management Systems (VTMS) Conference in Brighton, England. VTMS is jointly organized and hosted by the Society of Automotive Engineers, SAE and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, IMechE. It brings together world experts in their field. Vehicle thermal management systems are gaining increasing focus as consumers and legislators around the world pay closer attention to the environmental impact of automobiles. Glober’s speech brought specific focus to the challenges and opportunities around environment (mass, fuel efficiency, emissions), product reliability, time-to-market, product cost and product development cost. Prof. Tim Cowell, member of the conference organizing committee summarized: “The keynote address highlighted the enormous technical and commercial challenges under which new systems have to be developed, but it also provided outstanding examples of breakthrough methods that have come available to achieve new product development objectives”. Examples of advanced methods included numerical modeling for assessing and improving passenger comfort, combined computational fluid dynamics and stress calculations to improve component reliability, fatigue and creep analysis, noise prediction tools and many more. Many examples of innovative products were given that provided suppliers and automotive manufacturers the opportunity of differentiation in the marketplace, a key to demonstrating innovation power and supporting brand image.
